NEURONAL SPECIFICATION AND CONNECTIVITY IN THE PERIPHERAL NERVOUS SYSTEM

Employment: postdoc position, 2 years + extension

We are seeking a highly motivated, independent and talented researcher to study the development of the peripheral nervous system. Combining mouse genetics to molecular biology and advanced genomics, the successful candidate will explore the general molecular principles that control the construction of a highly organized and functional circuitry from a group of precursor cells. The proposed projects aim at understanding the molecular logic that drives the assembly of the sensory motor connectivity and will represent a strong theoretical framework that will help us and others exploring further the principles that govern the construction of complex functional neural network. We also propose to study the molecular programs that control the development of the nervous system of the cochlea, the peripheral hearing organ, and to reveal for the first time the physiological function of still enigmatic neuronal populations.

The research projects in my laboratory employ an integrated approach involving molecular and cell biology, advanced genomics, reverse and forward genetic strategies in the mouse, complemented by anatomical and biochemical methods, enabling in vitro and in vivo analyses of signaling events and molecular mechanisms involved in neuronal fate decision.

Candidates should have received their PhD during the last 3 years before the start of the postdoc studies, with a proven publication record (first author papers in renowned scientific journals). The successful candidate will have a strong background in cell and molecular biology and mouse genetics; experience in bioinformatics is a plus. Karolinska Institute offers a stimulating and vibrant work environment for neuroscientists/cell biologists and great opportunities for the development of an academic career.
