The Diode Laser & LED Systems group at DTU Fotonik, Department of Photonics Engineering at the Technical University of Denmark is seeking a candidate for a Postdoc position in the field of “diode lasers and nonlinear frequency conversion for biophotonics applications” as per March 1st 2013. The position is for a period of 24 months and includes fundamental and applied research as well as innovation in collaboration with international academic and industrial partners.

The department of Photonics Engineering at the Technical University of Denmark has 220 employees with competences in optics and is one of the largest centers in the world based solely on research in photonics. Research is performed within optical sensors, lasers, LEDs, photovoltaics, quantum photonics, biophotonics, ultra-high speed optical transmission systems and nanooptics.

Job description
The overall objective of the postdoc work has two main parts: (i) Development and construction of laser modules based on high power diode lasers and nonlinear frequency conversion, and (ii) application of these laser modules in biophotonics applications in close cooperation with national and international academic and industrial partners. The intended work is part of the project Functional Anatomical Molecular Optical Screening (FAMOS) funded by the European Commission. Research activities in the intended post-doc position will be connected to the following topics:

  • Experimental investigation of different schemes for nonlinear frequency conversion of high power diode lasers.
  • Biophotonic applications of diode laser modules in combination with ultrafast lasers, e.g. optical coherence tomography and multiphoton tomography.
  • Modeling of nonlinear frequency conversion using non-Gaussian beams.
  • Mechanical and thermal design of diode laser modules.

Qualifications
Candidates should preferably have:

  • A PhD degree (or equivalent) in laser physics, optics or other relevant topic.
  • Documented research or industrial experience with development of laser systems.
  • Knowledge on mechanical and electrical design for laser modules.
  • The interest to work in a multidisciplinary team including academia and industry.
  • An interest in assisting in co-supervising B.Sc., M.Sc. and Ph.D. students relevant for the project.

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union.
The place of work is DTU Fotonik, Risø Campus, Roskilde.
