This new, full-time post is available from 1st May 2019 on a fixed term basis until 31st December 2021.

The post

The College wishes to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to participate in the project “From Field Data to Global Indicators: Towards a Framework for Intelligent Plant Data Linkage”. This project investigates the conditions under which plant data can be efficiently and reliably linked across data platforms and infrastructures around the world through engagement with a variety of stakeholders involved in the development and use of plant data infrastructures in Europe, North-America and the Global South.

You will work closely with the PI and project partners to: (1) build an international collaborative network to facilitate innovative thinking around data linkage; (2) identify salient differences between existing initiatives and investigate the reasons for those differences to develop an empirical understanding of the state of play; (3) develop large funding bids to support innovative data linkage strategies.

The post will include national and international travel to build collaborations at the global level.

About you

The successful applicant will be able to develop research objectives, projects and proposals; identify sources of research funding and contribute to the process of securing funds and make presentations at conferences and other events. You will possess a relevant PhD or equivalent in history, philosophy, social studies and/or anthropology of science; or any research area concerned with data science, data curation, computational ontologies, knowledge infrastructures or data studies.

You will be a nationally recognised authority in at least one of these areas and possess specialist knowledge to develop research programmes and methodologies. An interest in data practices in plant biology, agronomy and/or crop research is essential. Applicants will be able to collaborate with data scientists, biologists and data curators; conduct desk research on data infrastructures in plant and crop science; produce high-level publications; and develop bids to support further work in this area.You will also be able to work collaboratively, supervise the work of others and act as team leader as required.
