Applications are invited for post-doctoral research associate positions in the laboratories of Drs. Rachel Damico and Paul Hassoun, in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, Department of Medicine, Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore MD, starting immediately (start date negotiable). The area of investigation includes pulmonary vascular physiology, molecular and cellular biology, and genetics as they pertain to pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). Projects are focused on the molecular determinants of right ventricular adaptation and dysfunction in PAH. Ideal candidates should have a solid background in biology and genetic approaches (including prior work with genetically engineered mice), confocal microscopy and a strong interest in vascular and/or lung biology. A Ph.D. in Biological Sciences or a related discipline is required. Experience in one or more of the following areas is highly desirable: (i) animal handling, husbandry and restraint, as well as minor survival surgeries in rats and mice, to include intravenous drug administration and sample collection, as well as necropsy, (ii) standard molecular techniques, including molecular cloning, PCR, RealTime PCR, RNA and DNA isolations and Western blots, (iii) cell culture techniques and transfections, (iv) pulmonary hemodynamic measurements, (v) lung morphometric techniques and (vi) animal imaging. The applicant is also expected to design experiments and write manuscripts. The ideal candidate will have an outstanding publication record, and demonstrated skills in biochemistry and molecular biology. The post-doctoral associate is expected to work without supervision, analyze data, maintain accurate experimental record and write manuscripts for publication. The ability to independently work in a research project is a plus. Ability to organize work effectively, conceptualize and prioritize objectives based on project knowledge is a plus. Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with other research personnel in the lab and working in a team environment is expected. Fluency in English is required. Salary will be commensurate with experience and skills of the candidate. Full benefit including health care and retirement will be provided as per guidelines of Johns Hopkins University.
