Job Number: 7052817

Posting Date: Aug 29, 2018

Application Deadline: Open Until Filled

Job Description

A fulltime position is available immediately for an ambitious and motivated inpidual, interested in molecular and cell biology, cell signaling, biochemistry and animal models of cancer, in the laboratory of Richard L. Eckert, PhD in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. Dr. Eckert and Dr. Joseph Friedberg, MD, Department of Surgery, have an ongoing project focused on mesothelioma, a highly aggressive and therapy-resistant cancer caused by exposure to asbestos. Our previous studies show that mesothelioma cancer stem cells (MCS cells) are highly aggressive and form rapidly growing tumors compared to non-stem cancer cells, suggesting that they are important therapy targets. The goal of these studies it to understand signaling pathways that drive MCS cell survival, stemness and tumor formation, and to identify therapeutic strategies. The candidate must be a motivated and productive PhD or PhD/MD who is interesting in cancer biology, is able to multitask and wishes to pursue a career in cancer biology. The Eckert laboratory has reputation for providing a productive mentoring environment.

Techniques include cell culture, gene transfection, protein purification, informatics analysis, RNA extraction, RT-PCR, DNA cloning, plasmid construction, immunoblot, reporter assays, ChIP, protein expression, CRISPR, xenograft and de novo tumor models, confocal microscopy and others. Candidates should address applications to Dr. Richard Eckert, PhD, at biochemjobs@som.umaryland.edu. The applicant should include his/her curriculum vitae, a statement of interest, and the names of three referees.

The University of Maryland, Baltimore is an Equal Opportunity, Affirmative Action employer. Minorities, women, inpiduals with disabilities, and protected veterans are encouraged to apply.
