The University of Miami Miller School of Medicine-UHealth is home to some of the brightest minds in the world. Our Faculty teach students who represent the future of medicine. Our researchers are discovering breakthrough patient treatments. As an academic medical center, we are proud to serve South Florida, Latin America and the Caribbean. Our physicians represent more than 100 specialties and subspecialties, and have more than one million patient encounters each year.  The John P. Hussman Institute for Human Genomics at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate to work in computational genomics. Working with Drs. Margaret Pericak-Vance and William K. Scott, the successful candidate will participate in large-scale collaborations examining the genetics of age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and glaucoma. These projects include collaborations with investigators at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute and the University of Pennsylvania, as well as participation in the International AMD Genomics Consortium (IAMDGC) and NEIGHBORHOOD (glaucoma) consortia. This team of investigators is comprised of molecular geneticists, neurologists, bioinformaticians, and statistical and genetic epidemiologists who work together on human genetic diseases. The qualified candidate will be working on research directed towards identifying environmental factors, genes and the mechanisms that they influence to increase risk and outcomes. Also the candidate will gain experience with next generation sequencing (NGS) data analysis. Minimum requirements are as follows: Ph.D. in statistical genetics, statistics, genetic epidemiology, or bioinformatics preferred. The ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary team is expected. Any appropriate combination of education, certifications, and/or relevant work experience may be considered. At the University of Miami School of Medicine, patient safety is a top priority.  As a result, during the Influenza ("the flu") season (September through April),  the University of Miami School of Medicine requires all employees who provide ongoing services to patients, work in a location (all Hospitals and clinics) where patient care is provided, or work in patient care or clinical care areas, to have an annual influenza vaccination.  Failure to meet this requirement will result in rescinding or termination of employment.UHealth-University of Miami Health System, South Florida's only university-based health system, provides leading-edge patient care powered by the groundbreaking research and medical education at the Miller School of Medicine.
