Applications are invited for a PhD studentship to start in October 2016. The project will be based in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Loughborough University.

Modern farming techniques often require fertilisers to be applied to crops mixed with other chemicals. Manufacturing and storing these complex formulations pose several challenges, which include chemical stability, mixing and caking. This project will include the use of spouted beds, mixers and complex moisture analysis to solve these problems. The fertiliser manufacturer Yara will be participating in the project and there will be opportunities for the successful candidate to spend time on site. The project will be suitable for those interested in powder caking and fluidised beds.

The studentship is for 3 years and is intended to start in October 2016. The studentship provides a tax free stipend of £14,296 per annum for the duration of the studentship, plus tuition fees at the UK/EU rate. Please note that due to restrictions imposed by the funder only students with a UK/EU fee status will be considered for this position.

Students will normally need to hold, or expect to gain, at least a 2:1 degree (or equivalent) in Chemical Engineering. A relevant Master’s degree and/or suitable industrial experience would also be an advantage.
