Date Posted:  07/19/2016
Application Deadline: Open Until Filled

Job Description

: The Materials, Devices, and Energy Technologies Department has an immediate postdoctoral research opening in the area of Separator Materials, Electrocatalysts and Battery Development at our Albuquerque, New Mexico facility. The postdoc’s primary responsibilities will be in helping to develop cost effective rechargeable battery systems for grid scale storage, focused on advanced zinc-manganese oxide chemistries. The work will entail developing and optimizing new materials, formulations, components and processing conditions in order to build and test electrodes and batteries with validated increased performance at a lower cost. We are especially interested in applicants with experience in organic and/or polymer synthesis and those with experience developing separators. Additional roles could include developing nanoscale hybrid electrocatalysts for potential metal-air batteries, fuel cell and electrolyzer applications. The candidate is expected to interface with Sandia's multi-disciplinary environment and to span the range from fundamental to applied research: both to publish peer-reviewed scientific articles and aid in the development of technologies transferable to U.S. renewable energy industries where relevant.

Required:
99. PhD in chemistry, materials science, engineering or a related technical field; 99. General electrochemistry experience; 99. Synthetic (materials) chemistry experience; 99. Publication record of innovative research in the related fields; 99. Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DOE security clearance.

Desired:
99. Experience with electrochemical systems (Batteries, Capacitors, Electrolyzers); 99. Demonstrated project management skills; 99. Ability to mentor undergraduate students and technologists; 99. Good oral- and written-communication skills; 99. Team-oriented approach.
