Postdoctoral position in Bioimaging and Cell Physiology : Copenhagen, Denmark

A postdoctoral position is available from 1. August 2016, or soon thereafter, in the laboratory of Prof. Ivana Novak at Section for Cell Biology and Physiology, Department of Biology, University of Copenhagen. The position will be associated with the project (Small molecules of metabolism and ATP responses in living cells) funded by the Danish Council for Independent Research |Natural Sciences. The position is for one year with possible extension by one year.

Area of Research
Our current research addresses the role of extracellular ATP and purinergic signaling in regulation of ion transport, metabolism, cellular signaling and cell behavior in pancreatic and other cells, both in physiological and pathophysiological processes. The expertise in our international group ranges from molecular biology to physiology with particular focus on innovative techniques in live cell microscopic imaging.

The overall goal of the postdoctoral project will be to elucidate ATP release mechanisms and connection between purinergic signaling and metabolism in selected mammalian cell types. These processes are important in cell/body physiology and can be altered in diseases such as diabetes, obesity and cancer. The project will make use of mammalian cell models and a number of techniques including various reporters and sensors imaged in living cells.

Qualifications
We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced candidate who holds a Ph.D. degree with background in cell or molecular biology, biochemistry or physiology.

The applicant must have a strong experimental background in state-of-the-art microscopic imaging, preferably in live mammalian cells, and in molecular biology, including cloning. Previous experience in purinergic signaling or metabolism is advantageous.

The candidate must document a track record of scientific publications with three first-author publication in respectable international journals. Furthermore, candidate should be able to work independently as well as collaborate in teams. Excellent written and spoken English and good communication abilities are requirements for the position.
