Postdoctoral positions in Implantable Neurodevices using 2D materials and in Multi-photon Imaging and Biophysical Modeling of Neural Circuits

University of California, San Diego

Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering

Two postdoctoral positions are available for interested recent PhDs at the intersection of Electrical Engineering and Neuroscience.

The first position will focus on design and fabrication of neural interfaces using 2D materials on flexible and stretchable substrates, integration of flexible interfaces with data acquisition systems, imaging/recording experiments in rodents, and signal processing and data analysis on neural recordings. Expertise in 2D materials and multiyear experience in cleanroom processing and fabrication are requirements for this position. This position will expose the fellow to neuroscience applications of nanoelectronic devices and will provide an interdisciplinary training in the area of neuroelectronics.

The second position will focus on simultaneous multi-photon imaging and electrophysiology experiments in rodents, imaging/recording data analysis and development of biophysical models on Neuron platform. Previous familiarity with fluorescence imaging data analysis and experience on Neuron platform (and Python) and biophysical modeling are required. This position will provide a great opportunity to neuroscience PhDs to expand their research interests into various new neurotechnologies and gain experience in design, development neuroelectronic devices in an interdisciplinary research group and collaborate with researchers from Institute for Neural Computation.

We are looking for self-motivated and independent scholars with a passion for nanoelectronics and neuroscience. Both positions will provide a unique interdisciplinary training for the fellows and opportunity to closely collaborate with researcher from UCSD Electrical Engineering and Neuroscience. The fellows will work under the supervision of Professor Duygu Kuzum. The fellows are expected to work well in a collaborative environment and also supervise PhD and masters students involved in the project. The expected starting time is Summer 2016.

Interested candidates should submit a CV, a cover letter, and a list of 2-3 references electronically to Professor Duygu Kuzum (dkuzum AT ucsd.edu). Also candidates should state why they are interested in the lab and their goals for a post-doctoral fellowship.
