The successful candidate will be part of the Clinical Informatics Research and Discovery (CIRD) group within BCBI and work under the guidance of a primary mentor. The mission of CIRD is to provide expertise in leveraging Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems and data to improve healthcare delivery and biomedical discovery by: (1) innovating use of the EHR for primary (e.g., patient care) and secondary (e.g., research, quality, and public health) purposes, (2) implementing solutions within operational clinical and research systems, and (3) inspiring the next generation of clinical informaticians.

Responsibilities

• Participate in ongoing clinical informatics initiatives involving collaborators across Brown University, hospital affiliates, and statewide healthcare organizations

• Design new studies and develop grant proposals focused on leveraging the EHR to support healthcare delivery and biomedical discovery

• Publish abstracts and full-length manuscripts as well as present at local, national, and international venues

• Mentor undergraduate, graduate, and medical students

Requirements

• Doctoral-level degree (e.g., PhD in biomedical informatics or related field, MD, DO, DDS, DVM, DNSc, DrPH, or PharmD)

• Less than five years of postdoctoral experience

• Experience with electronic health records, clinical documentation, clinical decision support, workflow analysis and process redesign, data mining, natural language processing, standards and interoperability, and privacy and security

• Strong computational, communication, and writing skills

• Ability to work independently and as part of a transdisciplinary team

Application

• Cover letter describing research experience, interests, and career goals

• Curriculum vitae

• Up to three (3) representative publications and presentations

• Three (3) letters of reference

Initial review of applications will begin on April 15, 2016, and continue until the position is filled.
