The Franzini research group affiliated with the Department of Medicinal Chemistry and the Huntsman Cancer Institute at the University of Utah invites for applications for a position as a Postdoctoral Scientist (Chemical Biology/Medicinal Chemistry). The anticipated start date is in Summer 2016 (open for discussion).

Position summary:

The candidate will perform research at the interface of Chemistry, Biology and Medicine pursuing the development of novel drug discovery techniques and drug leads. Research activities will focus on the design and development of DNA-encoded chemical libraries (recent review article: http://pubs.acs.org/doi/abs/10.1021/ar400284t) and their applications to the identification of hit structures for disease-related targets.

Qualifications:

An ideal candidate is highly motivated to advance his/her career by developing ambitious research projects. Minimal requirements include a Ph.D. in Medicinal/Organic Chemistry, Chemical Biology, Biochemistry or a related discipline. The candidate should have excellent theoretical and practical knowledge of preparative and analytical techniques in Chemistry and Biology. The applicant is expected to have experience in organic synthesis, bioconjugation, and fundamental molecular biology techniques. Candidates that are experienced in nucleic acid chemistry and affinity-selection techniques will be considered with priority. Enthusiasm to learn novel techniques and concepts is anticipated.

A successful candidate should contribute to a positive work environment, which favors safe laboratory practice and high scientific ethical standards. Good interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written) are expected.

This is an entry level positions and researchers with <3 years postdoctoral experience are preferred. Candidates are encouraged to identify opportunities for financial support.

The work place will be located in the all-new Skaggs Pharmacy Research Building. The campus of the University of Utah is close to downtown Salt Lake City. This setting combines the amenities of a metropolitan area with the unique outdoor recreational activities Utah has to offer. Salt Lake City is close to some of the most iconic landmarks of the USA.
