The Faculty of Engineering, Architecture and Information Technology (EAIT) comprises the Schools of Architecture, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Information Technology and Electrical Engineering, Mechanical and Mining Engineering, and the Advanced Water Management Centre. These units are internationally recognised and their teaching and research successes create a stimulating environment within which the Faculty staff work. In the most recent THE survey, the faculty was ranked 39^th in the world for Engineering & Technology.

The School of Chemical Engineering is an international leader in the chemical engineering field and has an outstanding reputation for both research and teaching. With 35 academic staff, including 17 professors, the school provides a wide range of high-quality taught programmes at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. In the most recent research quality rankings, the school was ranked number 1 in Australia for Chemical Engineering.

The role

A highly motivated post-doctoral fellow is sought to work within the research team of Professor Simon Biggs at the University of Queensland. The appointee will be required to undertake an original program of research in the broad area of colloid/particle engineering; full details of this research program are not yet decided and will be negotiated with Prof. Biggs but will fall within the broad areas of his research interests in the area of functional microcapsules design and synthesis.

The person

This is a full-time position and is available for a period of up to 3 years. You will have a good first degree in a relevant discipline such as chemical engineering, minerals engineering, chemistry, materials science or other related science and engineering disciplines, together with a PhD. Your technical knowledge should include strong experimental skills in colloid and surface science, especially particulate systems synthesis and/or characterisation. You will be enthusiastic, with good interpersonal and communication skills. Evidence of an ability to write scientific papers and grant applications will also be beneficial.

Supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate students will be required, as is the production of regular written reports, assistance in the preparation of both scientific publications and external grant applications. Communication of research results at international conferences is expected.

Remuneration

This is a full-time, fixed term appointment for up to 3 years at Academic Level A or B.  The remuneration package will be in the range $76,864 to $103,138 p.a., (contingent on qualifications and experience) plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range $89,931 - $120,671 p.a.).
