Postdoctoral Research Assistant : Dundee, United Kingdom

A position funded through a Debra International project grant is available in the laboratory of Dr Gareth Inman in the Medical Research Institute at Ninewells Hospital, Dundee and Dr Andrew South, Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia, USA. Our research focuses on the regulation of Transforming Growth Factor beta (TGF-beta) signaling in cancer and the development and progression of cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC). Recessive dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa (RDEB) is an inherited devastating skin blistering disease. RDEB patients are at high risk of developing life threatening cSCC and our preliminary data indicates that TGF-beta signaling is involved in RDEB associated cSCC.

The following position is available for 36 months from January 2015.

We are looking for a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Assistant to investigate the role of TGF-beta signaling in the cSCC in RDEB. TGF-beta has powerful tumour suppressive and tumour promoting functions and regulates both cancer cells and their microenvironment. We are seeking to determine the molecular mechanisms and biological consequences of TGFb signaling both in tumor cells and cancer associated fibroblasts. We will employ state of the art molecular cell biological techniques investigating the interactions of cSCC cells and fibroblasts. Prior experience with mammalian cell culture is essential and experience with skin biology would be advantageous. This position provides the unique opportunity to work in both the Inman lab in Dundee followed by a period in the South lab in Philadelphia.
