Job Description

Postdoctoral fellowship evaluating novel therapeutics in an animal model of neonatal hypoxic-ischemic brain injury

One postdoctoral fellow position is available in the Hugo W. Moser Research Institute at Kennedy Krieger and the Departments of Neurology and Anesthesia & Critical Care Medicine at Johns Hopkins University SOM. We are looking for qualified persons with experience working with animal models of hypoxic ischemic, neuroinflammatory or neurodegenerative disorders. The fellow will join a multidisciplinary group working in a cutting-edge area exploring nanostructured materials for drug delivery in a neonatal mouse model of hypoxic-ischemic brain injury. The goal of this NICHD-funded research project is to develop a multi-modal treatment strategy for neonatal hypoxia-ischemia that combines targeted nanotherapeutic approaches with hypothermia to reduce brain damage in infants exposed to perinatal hypoxic-ischemia. Extensive collaborations between the Center for Nanomedicine and Kennedy Krieger Institute are key components of the project. The candidate should have a PhD in neuroscience or a related field such as neuropharmacology or behavioral neuroscience. Research experience in any or most of these areas are highly desired: (1) microsurgery, (2) processing and handling of brain tissue, (3) immunohistochemistry, (4) animal behavioral studies including cognitive and motor analysis, (5) microscopy (brightfield, confocal, fluorescence and/or 2-photon imaging), (6) RT-PCR/Western Blots/ELISAs. Experience with MRI/DTI/PET imaging is desirable but is not required. Knowledge or experience in drug delivery is not a requirement. The candidate should be highly motivated, with excellent communication and writing skills and should be able to interact well with other members of the team. The position is available immediately and a competitive salary commensurate with experience will be provided.

KKI is an equal opportunity employer. Applications from minorities and women are especially encouraged.
