Assistant or Associate Professor of Medicine
Stanford Center for Biomedical Informatics Research
and the Stanford Cancer Institute
The Stanford Center for Biomedical Informatics Research (BMIR) within the Department of Medicine and the Stanford Cancer Institute seek to recruit a new faculty member to join the Department as an Assistant Professor or Associate Professor in the Medical Center Line or Non-Tenure Research Line. Candidates must have an earned doctoral degree and formal advanced training in biomedical informatics or computer science. The search committee encourages applications from candidates who have research interests in clinical informatics, bioinformatics, or both subdisciplines, and who would be committed to developing collaborative projects with the Stanford Cancer Institute and to advancing the Institute's clinical and research missions through work in the computational sciences.
The major criteria for appointment for faculty in the Medical Center Line shall be excellence in the overall mix of clinical care, clinical teaching, scholarly activity that advances clinical medicine and institutional service appropriate to the programmatic need the individual is expected to fulfill.
The major criterion for appointment for faculty in the Non-tenure Line (Research) is evidence of high-level performance as a researcher for whose special knowledge a programmatic need exists.
Faculty rank will be determined by the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.
We expect the successful candidate to conduct a vigorous, independent research program, to provide advice and expertise to Cancer Institute programs, to advise students in a graduate program in Biomedical Informatics, and to assist in program administration. Formal teaching in the classroom will be encouraged. Clinical care is not a requirement of this position, but may be negotiated.
Faculty members appointed as Assistant Professors will have completed one or two years of postdoctoral research experience. Their accomplishments during graduate and postgraduate training should already have stamped them as creative and promising investigators. Faculty appointments to the rank of Associate Professor are based upon evidence of the candidate's performance at another institution of exceptionally meritorious research.
