Job description
FASTPATH program is a consortium of industrial and academic partners successfully awarded a European Marie Curie FP/ grant. The purpose of the network is to develop high-throughput image analysis solutions for digital pathology in prostate cancer. (https://sites.google.com/a/oncomark.com/fastpathproject/home).
We bring a wide range of advanced digital pathology expertize from both academia and industrial sectors to address some of the key issues in prostate cancer diagnostic and handling. FASTPATH has the following objectives/workpackages:
1. To develop and apply automated pattern recognition tools for discrimination of morphological subtypes in prostate cancer
2. To develop and apply automated image analysis approaches for quantitation of prognostic biomarkers in prostate cancer
3. To design and develop of high-performance computing solutions for the high-throughput analysis of prostate cancer samples
4. To implement an online content-based image retrieval, annotation and quantitation system.
The present position is intended to be a part of workpackage 2. The selected candidate will further develop a new immunofluorescence technique called Time Resolved Fluorescence Imaging (TRFI) to be used for biomarker quantification in tissue sections. The candidate is intended to:

• Optimize protocols for TRF staining
• Create a standardized procedure for biomarker quantification through TRF
• Work with conventional immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence for comparison with the proposed new approach
• Utilize slide scanner and image analysis software for digital images handling
• Build a large dataset of digital images from patient material to be subsequently analyzed in another point of the network
• Test TRF approach on a number of proposed markers
• Collaborates with other nodes of the network
• Reports results on a regular basis for sharing within the network

Qualifications required
• Knowledge of slides processing for microscopy (immunohistochemistry/immunofluorescence)
• Knowledge of imaging and image processing
• Doctoral degree in Life Science/biomedical Engineering?
• At the time of recruitment by the host organization, researchers must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc) in Sweden for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the reference date

Placement: Department of Clinical Sciences Malmö, Lund University , Lund
Duration: Two years
