Postdoctoral Position
in MR physics and neuroimaging
Initial employment for two years starting May 1st 2014 | salary according to TV-L

About us:
The University Medical Center Göttingen is a tertiary care center and offers great development potential. Its 7,000 employees work in over 60 departments and facilities to provide top-quality patient care, excellent research and modern teaching. Göttingen, “City of Science”, lies near the center of Germany, the University Medical Center Göttingen is embedded in the city’s attractive network of scientific research facilities.

Your profile:
You should have a PhD degree in Engineering, Physics, Neuroscience or a related field. A strong background in MR physics, neuroimaging and an interest in hands-on experimental work are expected. This relates to human and animal (monkey) experiments as well as to the implementation and optimization of (functional) MR protocols and pulse sequences. Therefore, proficiency with Siemens IDEA/ICE programming and MATLAB as well as familiarity with neuroimaging analysis software (e.g. BrainVoyager, SPM, FSL, etc.) are expected. A good command of English and communication skills are required.

One part of the work will be dedicated to the assistance of and collaboration with neuroscientists regarding the conception, realization, data acquisition and analysis of MR projects. In addition, the candidate will have the possibility to develop his/her own research focus within the framework of the department’s scientific goals. The scientific expertise of the candidate should be documented by corresponding publications in international peer-reviewed journals.

The general goal of the department is to bridge basic neuroscience and clinical research by employing electrophysiological, (functional) MRI and brain stimulation/inactivation techniques in healthy subjects, neurological patients and in animal models. In particular, we aim to understand the neural networks underlying cognitive functions such as spatial awareness and decision making. We are collaborating closely with the Decision and Awareness Group (head: Dr. I. Kagan) at the German Primate Center, Göttingen (DPZ).

Another important part of the department is the Service Unit MR-Research (head: PD Dr. P. Dechent), which is active in the field of structural and functional imaging and supports a number of research projects in the context of scientific collaborations with the clinical neuroscience departments. The Service Unit is equipped with a 3 Tesla MR scanner (Siemens TIM Trio), which is dedicated to research only.

Women are especially encouraged to apply. Handicapped applicants with equal qualifications will be given preferential treatment.

We look forward to receiving your application until March 7th 2014.
