Applications are invited for the above post to join the Cancer Immunotherapy Research Group at the University of Nottingham. This project involves producing novel monoclonal antibodies targeting tumour associated glycolipids. Glycolipids are interesting targets as they are costimulatory molecules involved in many cellular processes, including a novel form of cell death. Most normal immunisation fails to stimulate antibody responses to these antigens due to lack of T cell help. The aim of this project is about overcoming this limitation with innovative chemistry and immunology and the post holder will initiate and lead an established research team consisting of post-doctoral researchers and technicians. The post will be based in the Division of Clinical Oncology on the Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust’s City Hospital Campus.

Candidates should have a PhD or equivalent in immunology, cell or molecular biology. Extensive experience in one or more of the following techniques is essential: Cell biology skills including production and purification of monoclonal antibodies; immunological skills including immunisation and induction and assessment of anti-tumour antibody responses; molecular biology skills including cloning, transfection, PCR and site directed mutagenesis; protein biochemistry skills including gel electrophoresis, western blotting, immunoprecipitation and affinity purifications; analytical skills including cell killing assays, ELISA and flow cytometry; chemical skills including HPLC, TLC and mass spectroscopy. Experience in supervising junior staff and students would be advantageous.

This full time post will be offered on a fixed term contract for a period of 24 months.
